17 July 2013 Apartheid struggle veteran Andrew Mlangeni, who was sentenced to life imprisonment along with Nelson Mandela and six others on 12 June 1964, will address a special United Nations session to mark Nelson Mandela International Day on Thursday. Mlangeni will speak alongside UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN General Assembly president Vuk Jeremic, former US president Bill Clinton and legendary musician Henry Belafonte at a special UN General Assembly session in New York. “Mandela is the only global citizen that has had the honour of his birthday being marked by the UN General Assembly,” Department of International Relations and Cooperation spokesperson Clayson Monyela said at the official Mandela Day launch last month. On Tuesday, Monyela noted that this year’s Mandela Day celebration was of particular significance in the context of the count-down to South Africa’s 20th Anniversary of liberation in 2014. He added: “The best way to celebrate Madiba’s life is to observe the ideals his life encapsulates: freedom, democracy and dignity for all. Madiba’s leadership transcended all human boundaries, whether based on race, clan, ethnicity or religion.” Source: SAnews.gov.za

(Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)When you get together a giant group of four and five-star recruits, you’re bound to have some crazy plays. The 7-on-7 competitions didn’t disappoint. During a Saturday game, five-star 2018 wide receiver Jalen Hall, the top player at that position in his class, made a phenomenal one-handed touchdown catch on a great throw by Georgia commit Jake Fromm. The only thing that might top the catch is the coordinated double-backflip celebration from Tyjon Lindsey and future Fromm teammate Richard LeCounte III.#AlphaPro acrobatics from @LilEasy_35 & @tyjonlindsey at @TheOpening. pic.twitter.com/3o9TsKDsnO— B/R The Future (@BR_TheFuture) July 10, 2016Pretty much everything that happened in this video was super athletic and impressive.
The Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) wrapped up its sensitisation and awareness meetings in western Jamaica on Wednesday, March 20, with a successful session at Godfrey Stewart High School in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland.More than 150 students took a break from the annual sports day activities to participate in the interactive one-hour session, where they were addressed by Executive Director of the BCJ, Cordel Green. Some of the topics discussed were: ‘Digital Switchover’; ‘Children’s Code for Programming’; ‘Managing Your Digital Self’; and ‘Traditional and New Media’.Speaking to JIS News after the meeting, Mr. Green said the three-school tour, held as part of the Commission’s media literacy programme, was an “overwhelming success”.He said the media literary programme is ongoing and the Commission will be seeking to reach more schools in western Jamaica under other phases. He said that discussions have already commenced for early follow-up sessions at Godfrey Stewart High.“They want us to go beyond their students and to engage with the parents as well. This will never stop because media literacy is an on-going exercise which is transformational,” Mr. Green said.Mr. Green in his presentation to the students, said the Commission is placing focus on the regulation of the electronic media, in light of the changing broadcasting landscape.“We are talking about the revamping of that legislative framework and revisiting the meaning of broadcasting, which is now taking in other platforms. We are not thinking about whether to regulate Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), rather the issue is whether the same regulatory approach to free-to-air television and cable would be extended to IPTV,” he stated. He said the large electronic billboards, which are “large programmable television screens” are also up for examination in the new electronic media policy, “which is on its way to the Cabinet, with a view to effecting changes sooner rather than later.”Grade seven teacher, Jody-Gaye Cummings, told JIS News that she was “very happy” for the Commission’s intervention.“The students needed it, because it will allow them to become more conscious of the social media, of the television, of the airwaves and the work that goes into protecting them as students so that they are not exposed to certain things that may damage their character and their psyche,” she stated. “They are now also more cognisant of the pros and cons of social media, which will influence their actions and better allow them to use these tools to their benefit rather than to their detriment,” Ms. Cummings told JIS News. The other schools visited were the St. James High School on March 6; and Barracks Road Primary in Montego Bay on March 7.The BCJ’s media literacy programme seeks to educate students about the pending change from analogue to digital broadcasting, called the “digital switchover” and challenges in the new media landscape.More than 20 educational institutions and 3,400 students have been engaged over the past two years.By Glenis A. LEAVE A REPLY Cancel replyLog in to leave a comment Facebook Advertisement Who inspired you to follow your dream to pursue acting? One day I saw a documentary about Arnold Schwarzenegger how he moved to America and became the biggest star of his time defying all odds how he was huge and even had a thick accent, how many Agents and Managers though it couldn’t be done. I told myself I have always had a similar dream so what do I have to lose I can’t lose this dream I have just found my real purpose and passion in life. I want to inspire others to achieve greatness to defy odds and to make this world a better place. I hope to inspire others into believing that no matter where you come from you can make this world a better place. What challenges have you faced in the entertainment industry? What has been your most rewarding experience?I believe when I landed my first Agent and he started sending me out for auditions it was during that time I didn’t knew other actors who could help me with self tapes or even practice my lines before an audition. I also struggled between jobs trying to find something flexible enough which allows me to make my days available for auditions. I suffered financially for a bit but then I was able to get through it just like everything else. With time my connections grew and I was able to utilize different areas of making money within the entertainment industry I do modeling, commercials and brand ambassador work as well. I designed a life that allows me to keep my days open for auditions and make decent money on the side. I guess one of my rewarding experiences would have to be when I got an Actor role on Suits. What is your favourite type of character to play?I would like to play characters from Marvel franchises I have always been inspired by super heroes and how they save our world from terror. I love Iron man, Batman, Spiderman, and Captain America. I do also like dark characters like Joker (Batman) and Loki (Thor)What market do you currently work in? Are there other areas you would like to work?I currently work in Toronto and I am represented by KG Talent, however I have travelled to NYC and have had few meeting with agencies. I am also looking to get representation in Los Angeles in the near future so that I can apply for an 0-1 visa which is for actors who are willing to work in the US market. I also do modelling, commercials and have started shooting my own projects so directing is another area I would like to capitalize in. As a model I have been punished in several magazines here in Canada and have a modeling agent as well. What advice would you give to someone new trying to make it in the acting industry?I believe the first and the most important thing is you have to love it. Theirs a lot of opportunity here in this city, network with follow actors, try to add your self to different casting sites I always recommend eBoss Canada, Casting Workbook and Actors Access. Get head shots from photographers land independent films and submit your self to agencies. Think of yourself as the CEO of your own business and be open to making some investments in areas such as quality head shots, casting website registrations and acting classes. Always have a long-lasting career goal in mind and remember you only lose when you give up.What fuels your passion?Performing can be very powerful. Although it can be for entertainment and comedy, it can also be used to inspire people. When I watch inspirational movies, I love how there can be a message which you can gain from that can make you stop to reevaluate yourself or benefit you. For instance, when I watched the Pursuit of Happiness, Will Smith’s character struggled to get where he wanted. Even though it wasn’t a huge difference at the end of the movie, the audience knew things would get easier and he would eventually get to his goal. Through the struggle, he didn’t stop but persevered. I can use this in my own life as I know acting is not easy and there will be a lot of challenges along the way but I just need to keep on being determined and dedicated and I will eventually reach my goal. What is something about you that most people would never guess?I am afraid of cats, I find it hilariousIf you were to do it all over again, would you do things exactly the same? Do you have any regrets? Successes that make you proud?Yes, without a doubt. I would do it all over again. I have been very blessed to do what I love. Perusing acting is the best decision I have ever made. I enjoy all my successes and Failures. I know that I have a goal to accomplish and everyday I am working towards it. I would like to quote Steve Jobs “Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by Dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your ear and intuition.”FOLLOW MOHAMMED ON SOCIAL MEDIAINSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mohammed_junaid77/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/Mohammed-Junaid-202315079867824/IMDB: https://imdb.com/name/nm4357245/Written By: Darlene MorrisonCLICK HERE TO VIEW ALL INTERVIEWS IN OUR ASPIRING TALENT SERIESIf you are an aspiring talent and would like to be featured in our Aspiring Talent SeriesContact Darlene via email at firstname.lastname@example.orgOpen to all (e.g. Actors, Models, Singers, Dancers, Producers, Directors, etc.) Advertisement Twitter Meet Mohammed Junaid, he is a Model, Actor and Director in Toronto and is represented by KG Talent.Check out our Q & A below:As a child, did you want to be an actor, or did it fall into place through other activities?I was the only child of my parents and had no siblings my parents wanted me to pursue a normal career. I remember my mom used to say that one day my son would work for a multinational company. In my whole family no one ever pursued acting. As a child I knew I wanted to do something great. It was later that I found out that the happiest I have ever been is when I am on set performing I just love it. I grew up watching movies, which stared Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I always knew I wanted to do what they did its just that the older I have become this dream has become more stronger. Advertisement Login/Register With:

Digital growth is coming, but its still far from becoming the central pillar of magazine media, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers annual Global Entertainment and Media Outlook. Change Is Slow: While a few consumer magazines already rely on digital for a majority of their revenue, most of the industry still relies heavily on print—PwC’s data suggests print ads will generate roughly 3- or 4-times more revenue than digital will this year. It’s not surprising that the print-digital revenue mix is changing over time, but it’ll continue to happen gradually through 2019. Even five-years down the road, print revenue will still account for nearly two-thirds of ad spending. Here’s what publishers need to know: Digital Editions Don’t Matter: Consumer magazines get almost all their circulation revenue from print, and that’s not about to change. Even as the world gets inundated with devices—PwC forecasts that smartphone ownership will double by 2019—digital editions will still only generate a small fraction of what print does. B2B Should Be Abroad: Total magazine revenue will track upward through 2019, largely on the strength of a 1.5-percent compound annual growth rate in trade magazines, spurred by performance in foreign markets. B2B media thrives in growing economies as companies look to enhance market intel, and countries like Peru and China, the report says, will see the fastest growth in total trade magazine revenue, with CAGRs of 8.5 percent and 8.3 percent, respectively. Overall, the industry is rebounding from several years of declines, and is expected to increase total global revenue in each of the next five years, topping out at $97.42 billion in 2019, up from $95.33 billion last year. Now in its 16th year, the report provides a five-year forecast based on advertiser and consumer spending data and commentary. (Interestingly, the report argues that ebooks will have an easier time than digital magazines in displacing print predecessors. In countries with high tablet penetration, like the U.S., ebooks will make up more than 40 percent of total book revenue by 2019.)
