first_img– robbed of guns, cash at ECD bankA security officer attached to the Roshan Khan (RK) Security Service was on Monday evening shot and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. The robbery occurred at about 19:30h in the vicinity of a popular Le Resouvenir, East Coast Demerara (ECD) bank.Dameon Pears, a 34-year-old security guard, was attempting to make a deposit at the bank when he was shot to his knee and relieved of the cash which belongs to a popular supermarket.According to information received, Pears and another guard arrived at the bank with the cash and upon their arrival; they saw a car parked a short distance away. It was while they were walking towards the bank that the gunmen pounced.The gunman’s accomplice also relieved the security guards of two .32 firearms. Crime Chief Wendel Blanhum told Guyana Times that Police are yet to make any arrest but noted that investigators are reviewing the CCTV footage from surrounding businesses.Last October, another security guard attacked to the security service was shot during a brazen daylight robbery in which gunmen carted off close to $4 million. Garvin Trotman, 29, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was shot twice to his right shoulder by three armed bandits, moments after he and his colleagues had uplifted cash from the Dr Balwant Singh Hospital and were en route to the bank. The bandits rode up on motorcycles alongside the RK Security vehicle and opened fire on the guards while demanding the cash. Willow Moon Internal Arts showcase their talents as part of World Tai Chi Day

first_imgMembers of the group went through a number of sets that varied in difficulty, and even involved the use of a sword. Tammy Bilodeau is the lead instructor for Willow Moon Internal Arts. She says that people may have heard of Tai Chi before, but don’t fully understand what it is.“Tai Chi is movement that is done very mindfully, consciously and slowly with an emphasis on posture,” she says. “There are a number of benefits to Tai Chi such as lowering blood pressure, strengthening of thigh muscles and improving body awareness.”- Advertisement -Bilodeau adds that one of the great things about Tai Chi is that it is an athletic activity that almost anyone can do.“Almost everybody can do Tai Chi because of it’s gentle aspect, there’s no impact to it,” she says. “People have many limitations in my classes such as knee and shoulder issues, and they are able to adapt.”last_img read more

first_imgA Donegal pensioner, who used viagra on occasion to rape his five grand-daughters, has failed in an appeal against the severity of his sentence.The man, who is aged 88, cannot be named for legal reasons, was jailed for 15 reasons.He had pleaded guilty to 45 sample counts of rape, indecent assault, sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault at various locations in the community where he lived between July 1993 and September 2009.
