For the record, this is clearly just a rumor. However, when the son of Frank Zappa puts the words Phish and “whole night of my Father’s music” next to each other, well, let’s just say our interests are piqued. In a new interview with the Missoulian ahead of Dweezil Zappa’s upcoming performance at The Wilma, Dweezil Zappa was asked about how Frank Zappa would feel about the feuding between the Zappa siblings. The guitarist responded, “I think he would be horribly disappointed at how everything has been handled by my mom, and now my brother and sister… Phish can do a whole night of my father’s music, and they don’t get a cease and desist letter, but I do?”Phish has never done “a whole night” of Frank Zappa music in their career. Of course this is speculation, but really the only time it would make sense for them to do a night of Zappa’s music would be at their upcoming Halloween performance. The band is very strongly influenced by Frank Zappa; though only one song is officially in their repertoire (“Peaches En Regalia”), Jon Fishman released a Zappa Picks compilation album a few years ago. The band also strongly considered a Zappa album for their Halloween show in 1995, but, according to Phish.net, “insanely complex overdubs, potentially offensive lyrics, and several tunes (esp. “Watermelon in Easter Hay”) that Zappa had requested never be performed live again” caused the band to reroute their practices to The Who’s Quadrophenia for that show.Additionally, there is the timing to consider. The “cease and desist letters” didn’t become a part of Dweezil’s life until this year, so it stands to reason that this comment refers to something that has happened recently, as opposed to an older reference. Furthermore, the band’s decision to play on a Monday for Halloween must mean that they have something in store for the performance. On the other hand, Dweezil – who probably isn’t as nerdy about Phish stats as we are – could just be making a sarcastic comment to emphasize his point. Phish more or less swore off of musical costume sets when they broke from tradition with the Wingsuit set of 2013, and continued that new trend with their Chilling, Thrilling Sounds performance in 2014. While the Halloween show could be a Zappa tribute that doesn’t pick on a particular album, this could all just be nothing but the hopes and dreams of Zappa/Phish fans blowing a quote out of proportion. While we won’t really know until we’re handed a “Phishbill” on October 31st at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, it’s certainly fun to speculate about what might be planned for that fateful evening. Until then, we have three nights at Dick’s and a whole fall tour ahead! See you there!
On the heels of their recently announced purchase of New Orleans’ legendary Tipitina’s nightclub, New Orleans-based funk outfit Galactic has announced a three-night run of shows over Mardi Gras, set to take place on March 1st, 2nd, and 4th at Tip’s.Galactic also has a new album on the way, Already Ready Already, due out on Friday, February 8th via Tchoup-Zilla Records.Produced by the band’s Robert Mercurio and Ben Ellman, Galactic’s 10th studio LP features guest appearances from Princess Shaw, Miss Charm Taylor, David Shaw, Nahko, Erica Falls, and Boyfriend. Already Ready Already sees Galactic taking a contemporary approach towards their own progressive sound, connecting elements of modern rhythms and electronic instrumentation.Luckily for fans, the recent recording sessions that yielded Already Ready Already generated enough material for another LP due later in 2019, one which Ellman described in a press release as “possibly more of a throwback thing,” but will almost certainly morph into something new and wonderful via Galactic’s evolutionary musical vision.Ellman also noted,I’ve never been able to put a label on what we do. I could say it’s funk or I could say it’s R&B or jazz or whatever else, but really, it’s all of that.Robert Mercurio added,It’s not that we’re always trying to push boundaries, but we definitely take influence from our hometown and try to do something new with it. We tour all around the world and we’re exposed to tons of elements that filter their way into our consciousness and come out through our music.Tickets for Galactic’s upcoming Mardi Gras run are now on sale here. For tickets and more information on Galactic’s upcoming tour and album, head to the band’s website here.

The game did not disappoint as the action was keen and intense from the opening tip-off. The first quarter saw the St.Kitts-Nevis frontcourt duo of Troy “Jasbo” Wattley and Kimo “Shasta” Duncan giving the 7 foot 2 inch Dominican Center Garth Joseph all he could handle and more as both men overcame the imposing Joseph to score 11 of the 14 first quarter points for the SKN team. Despite being hugely outsized by the Dominican frontcourt the SKN big men were able to score with excellent shot selection and quick post moves by both Wattley and Duncan. Joseph scored 10 of the Dominican team’s 14 first quarter points. The quarter ended with both teams on 14.In the 2nd quarter it was more of the same except with different players on the SKN team taking the bulk of the scoring load. Again it was one of the frontcourt players this time Shawn ShabbA Forbes who went on a 2nd quarter tear with 6 straight points and he was ably supported by SKABA MVP Tamboura Tambie Caines who finally got his groove after a disappointing showing the night before with his Club team Ghuat Bucs. Joseph continued his scoring tear in the 2nd quarter with some help from Ramal Carbon . Powell was hard nosed and got to the basket with relative ease whilst setting up his teammates Duncan and Wattley for easy buckets at the basket. At the end of the 3rd quarter the Domnnicans had a very slim 51-50 advantage. The 4th quarter was all St.Kitts-Nevis as the duo of Shawn “Shabba” Forbes and Kimo “Shasta” Duncan proved to be too much for the bigger Dominican frontcourt players including Joseph. Shabba and Shasta both individually scored more than the entire Dominican team in the final quarter. The Dominicans were outscored 17-4 in the final quarter.
